The X-Men '97 finale sees the team of mutants separated on different timelines: some in the past, some in the future. As the unresolved stories build up for season 2, here's how Logan's ominous warning lines up with the X-Men '97 finale.

As Bishop said, "Luckily, this ain't our first time at 'the X-Men are dead' rodeo." The finale may have sparked hope for the mutants in returning to their original time, but it also poses a darkness looming in their future.

Beast failed to stop the catastrophic impact of the Asteroid M on Earth, leaving the X-Men to prepare to sacrifice themselves. Instead of meeting their demise, however, they were sent to a different timeline.

While Rogue, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Magneto, and the Beast ended in the past (3000 B.C. Egypt), Jean Grey and Scott Summers ended up in The Future, 3960 A.D., where they meet Mother Askani and the Clan Askani. Oh, and a younger Nathan Summers.

However, what fans should pay attention to is the possible main villain for season 2: Apocalypse, and how he was foreshadowed.

X-Men '97 episode 5 titled Remember It sees Jean seeking comfort in Logan when she is trying to recall her memories with Scott, if they were the ones in love or if it had been Madelyne.

Watching Jean reminisce about the old Scott she knew led Logan to speak his two cents on the situation:

"I know all about drowning in memories," Logan said before saying his piece, "Best to look up and keep paddling. Keep moving, 'cause the past'll yank ya under if ya don't."

An ominous warning to heed, but this resonates with what showrunner Beau DeMayo teased ahead of the finale's premiere:

The showrunner also mentioned in the same thread that the finale echoes how history continues (and has the tendency) to repeat itself, despite the "seemingly unpredictable tide of its chaos."

In this case, the X-Men's job is not yet finished, and they will likely get hit with another big bad without them knowing it.

How Does the Warning Resonate with the X-Men '97 Finale?

Think about it: the X-Men are once again lost from their original timeline, hence, Bishop's statement that they've been here before, which also means he's seen this happen more than he could count.

Magneto and the others have shockingly encountered (and 'accidentally saved') En Sabah Nur, also known as the ancient mutant warrior who will eventually be known as the ruthless Apocalypse.

The same Apocalypse who was teased in the post-credit scene, after being seen picking up one of Gambit's torn cards after the Genosha massacre.

Not to mention, Scott and Jean are faced with the fate of never seemingly reuniting with their son, Nathan. As they bid him farewell during the failure to stop Asteroid M, they are once more confronted by the future as they see Nathan's younger version in The Future.

All of which would only be resolved once X-Men '97 season 2 premieres. Hopefully.
