The X-Men's fates were sealed the minute Professor Charles Xavier was declared to be dead in X-Men '97's premiere, as continued from where we left off in the original animated series titled Graduation Day.

There, Professor X was shot with an energy disruptor by NSA agent Henry Gyrich, leaving the mutant leader in a coma.

While fans and the main starring mutants in the series still couldn't believe the news, episode 6 titled Lifedeath Part 2 comes into view, unveiling that their theory had been right on the money this entire time.

As it turns out, Professor X is indeed alive. He was saved by his lover, Lillandra, aka the ruler of the Shi'ar Empire, somewhere in outer space.

Since then, he had been recovering, cutting off ties with the X-Men and humanity from Earth. However, another huge question that needs answering is how the Professor could walk on his own two feet.

As revealed in X-Men '97 episode 6, Professor X had been campaigned by his own lover to become their planet's new Emperor once they get married.

Professor X shared his sentiments with Lillandra by saying that he could finally walk on his own two feet, thanks to his armor's exoskeleton.

The suit also allows no one to see his vulnerable state, which could have been a facade that he was fit to be their ruler based on the universe's standards, despite knowing where he came from.

While the Professor indeed owes his gratitude to Lillandra for saving his life and wishes to take the role of peacemaker, he hesitates on the condition that he forgets his past life on Earth along with his X-Men.

Upon figuring out that Gambit and the others died on Earth, he takes it upon himself to sacrifice his private life to return.
