In the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ayesha, the leader of the Sovereign people had been filled with rage and she unveils what she considers their saving grace whom she will be calling Adam.
After 5 years, only then did Adam come back to the spotlight.

After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Poulter teases his future as Adam Warlock in Comicbook.com. "It kind of hinges on how people respond to the character. If the fans don't like Adam Warlock, obviously I'm going to be pretty gutted."
