Before we "dive in", check out the epic new trailer for Avatar 2: The Way of Water below:

Like the original 2009 movie, Avatar 2: The Way of Water has taken years to make. But as you may already know, it isn't the only Avatar sequel in the works - three more films in the series are set to follow every two years thereafter.

The first movie pioneered a new age of 3D in cinema, while showcasing the best of motion-capture technology. And the next film in the series is set to break even more ground as it features underwater motion-capture.

Avatar (2009) went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time. While it lost that title to Avengers: Endgame (2019) 10 years later, it quickly reclaimed the throne after a re-release on the Chinese market.

Now, Avatar 2: The Way of Water is set to make waves of its own (pun intended), as it's the first movie to feature underwater-based motion-capture performance - something which is evident from the epic trailer alone.

While it will likely come as no surprise, Avatar: The Way of Water will be released exclusively in theaters. It will also be released in Dolby Cinema, IMAX, and IMAX 3D formats.

As for when the film will be available for streaming remains to be seen, but like all blockbuster releases, this will be a few months after its theatrical run. With the original film on Disney+, there's no doubt the sequel will follow suit.

James Cameron returns to direct, however, he recently hinted that he may not be directing the last two entries in the Avatar series. The director also recently spoke about the theatrical experience of the upcoming film.

It would appear that Avatar: The Way of Water will be three hours in length, which is no surprise as this would be consistent with the original film (although that film actually clocks in at 2 hours 40 minutes).
