Apparently, there's a Spy Kids reboot being made right now by Netflix. The film is produced, written, and directed by Robert Rodriguez who created the show several years ago. Only this time, he is joined by his son Racer Max as a co-writer.

As promised by Netflix at its Geeked event, the new Spy Kids movie will introduce "the world to a new family of spies."

The title of the reboot was also revealed to be Spy Kids: Armageddon, which was supposed to be the original name for Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.

Here's what we know about the Spy Kids reboot right now:

When the movie was announced, the producer did not reveal much information about Spy Kids: Armageddon except that it had entered the development stage.

They also started filming in Austin, TX in the middle of June 2022.

As of September 7th, filming for the Spy Kids reboot has wrapped up. This was shared by the director in an Instagram post with a photo of him beside his son.

"Just wrapped a new SPYkids for @Netflix, working with my son Racer Max! First foto is from the set of SPYkids 2 in 2002. Not much has changed, only now he's co-writer, co-producer, and a little heavier."

The show wrapped up filming last August 31.

Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet revealed a Spy Kids: Armageddon release date. At this rate, we could see the movie get released by the second half of 2023.

The semi-official synopsis of Spy Kids: Armageddon reads:

"This latest chapter is set after the children of the world's greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, leading them to become spies themselves to save their parents and the world."

Another synopsis reveals that the parents of Tony and Patty get kidnapped by a powerful Game Developer. The two kids become spies themselves without knowing that their parents are two of the greatest secret agents in the world.

This synopsis sounds very similar to the first Spy Kids movie in the franchise. The only difference is that the kids from the original movie are named Juni and Carmen. This makes us think whether Spy Kids: Armageddon is a total reboot or a soft reboot of the original movie.

If it happens to be a full reboot, the new movie could have the same plot as the original film. But in the case of the latter, the older Juni (played by Daryl Sabara) and Carmen (played by Alexa PenaVega) can appear in the new movie.

When it comes to the cast, there have been a couple of announcements made for the new Spy Kids movie. The first announcement made in June 2022 revealed that Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla, and Connor Esterson have been added to the cast.

Another announcement was made in July 2022, which added Billy Magnussen to the movie along with D.J. Cotrona and Neal Kodinsky, who is set to play the villain named Villain Vargos.
