Following the success of the Korean reality survival show, Physical: 100, Netflix is gearing up to release a new combat survival show. But unlike Physical: 100, Siren: Survive the Island brings with it new survival challenges.
For one thing, the contenders are all physically strong and capable of the challenges thrown at them. But did we mention they are all on a remote island?
Here's what we know about the new Korean reality show.
When Is Siren: Survive the Island Coming Out on Netflix?
Netflix has revealed that Siren: Survive the Island will be making its premiere on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
As of this writing, we don't know yet how many episodes there will be. It's possible that the episodes will be released weekly.
But nothing has been announced at this point. We'll have to wait until the show makes its premiere.
What Is Siren: Survive the Island Show About?
The official synopsis of Siren: Survive the Island reads:
24 female police officers, firefighters, bodyguards, soldiers, athletes and stuntwomen team up by profession to compete for survival on a remote island.
Siren: Survive the Island is a new combat survival reality show that brings together 24 powerful women from different professions as they try to fight one another. The show is written by Chae Jin-ah and directed by Lee Eun-Kyung.
The contenders are all grouped by their career groups: police officers, athletes, military women, stuntwomen, bodyguards, and firefighters. The six teams will then fight one another until only one is declared the winner of the survival show.
How Did They Choose Cast For Siren: Survive the Island?
At this time, we don't know yet who will be part of the TV show. But there will be a total of 24 women with remarkable mental and physical strength.
These women are professionals from different careers out to prove who is the strongest among them.
Considering Netflix's Physical: 100 contestants were met with a number of controversies, Netflix Korea has ensured that they have practiced new background verification procedures to screen the contestants for Siren: Survive the Island.
Yoo Ki-hwan, content team manager, said:
Regarding the issue of verifying [the backgrounds] of participants, Netflix will be going through more procedures than we did with previous shows. We collect participants’ records and also have specialized psychiatrists monitor their stress levels.
To recall, some of the Physical: 100 contestants were met with allegations of past assault and battery charges and school bullying.
