"Cobra Kai never dies!" This is a famous line from the series and yes, it applies to the show too. That's because Cobra Kai is already on its fourth season. And if you're wondering if there'll be a fifth installment to the show, know that you're not alone. Several others who are proud of The Karate Kid saga are asking the same question.
So is a Cobra Kai Season 5 in production? Yes! Here's everything you need to know about the show right now.
Cobra Kai Season 5 Release Date
By now, you probably already know that Cobra Kai Season 5 is in production. What you may not be aware of is that the show is nearing is its release date!
Cobra Kai is indeed returning to Netflix for a fifth installment to the 37-year-old franchise. You can stream new episodes of the fifth season starting September 9, 2022.
This is actually a change to the usual December-January release window that Cobra Kai has observed in the previous seasons. And considering the show will be released on Netflix, you'll get to binge watch all the episodes at once. There's also no splitting up of the season so you won't have to wait for the next part to be released.
Ralph Macchio (as Daniel LaRusso) even shared his excitement over the good news on his Twitter account: "EXCITING NEWS! Our New Year's tradition just got bumped up a few months. Cobra Kai Season 5 drops Sept 9, only on Netflix! @CobraKaiSeries @Netflix pic.twitter.com/f6zAwEJ4s5."
Is Cobra Kai Season 5 the Final Season?
While we can expect Cobra Kai Season 5 to be released next month, there's no word yet on a sixth season. The good news is that the show creators, Josh Heald, Hayden Schlossberg, and Jon Hurwitz have shared that they intend to make more seasons.
In an interview with Collider, Heald said: "It's changed at times, but it also hasn't. We still have an endgame plan. We're still writing beyond Season 5. But it's been fun to bring in those new characters and storylines and let them lead the way sometimes."
Hurwitz also said: "We've never said from the beginning how many seasons there would be. I think we always viewed it as at least six was sort of in our heads, but we're still figuring out exactly what the length for that landing is for all the reasons that Josh mentioned."
In another interview with Deadline, Schlossberg shared that it's possible that the show could go over six seasons: "We have an end in mind. How many seasons it takes to get there, we don't know. We're enjoying making it so much. If it gets tiring to us, we'll stop before that; we have a few more seasons already planned out."
There you have it: the future or Cobra Kai looks bright. If it's a matter of ratings, it will definitely be unquestionable since Cobra Kai is one of Netflix's most popular shows.
We'll probably get an update on the status of Cobra Kai Season 6 once the fifth season has been released.

Cobra Kai Season 5 Cast
Cobra Kai wouldn't be the same if the cast would change. And that's likely not going to change anytime soon.
For Cobra Kai Season 5, the main actors are returning to reprise their roles include the following:
- William Zabka (as Johnny Lawrence)
- Ralph Macchio (as Daniel LaRusso)
- Xolo Maridueña (as Miguel Diaz)
- Tanner Buchanan (as Robby Keene)
- Mary Mouser (as Samantha LaRusso)
- Peyton List (as Tory Nichols)
- Jacob Bertrand (as Eli Moskowitz)
- Courtney Henggeler (as Amanda LaRusso)
- Vanessa Rubio (as Carmen Diaz)
- Martin Kove (as John Kreese)
There are some rumors that we won't get to see Miguel as much in Season 5 due to his prior commitments to the movie, Blue Beetle. But then again, Maridueña hasn't totally left the show so there's that.
We also know that Thomas Ian Griffith will be coming back to reprise his role as Terry Silver. He played the villain on Cobra Kai Season 4 and The Karate Kid 3. The big question now is whether his protégé, Mike Barnes (played by Sean Kanan) will be coming back in the fifth installment.
In the final episode of Cobra Kai Season 4, The Karate Kid 2 fans got excited when Yuji Okumoto returned as Chozen. It's still unknown whether he will be back for Season 5 as well.
Cobra Kai Season 5 Story
Netflix's official synopsis of Cobra Kai Season 5 says that the show will focus on: "Following the shocking results of the All Valley Tournament, Terry Silver is expanding the Cobra Kai empire and trying to make his 'No Mercy' style of karate the only game in town.
"With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he's caused, Daniel LaRusso must call on an old friend for help."
In an interview with ExtraTV, Thomas Ian Griffith said that Cobra Kai Season 5 is "incredible." He was also quoted describing the show as "next level, you know? Emotionally, physically, everything, it's just wonderful."
Jacob Bertrand also spoke to The List and said "Johnny has probably one of the coolest story lines of any season, in my opinion. I'm really excited for people to see his story arc."
In an update in late August, it was revealed that the Cobra Kai Season 5 story will focus on the dark roots of Terry Silver's karate. This was revealed in a short clip via Twitter.
We're already getting ready to see what's in store for the fifth season! Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long.
