WandaVision Star Elizabeth Olsen Finally Addresses What Happened to Her Sokovian Accent

Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch is definitely one of the more well-written characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but that's not to say that she hasn't gotten her fair share of inconsistencies.

Despite the fact that she's always been perceived as one of the true MVPs of the franchise, actress Elizabeth Olsen can't seem to escape one nitpick fans have had for years — and it concerns her "on-again, off-again" Sokovian accent.

When Maximoff debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she had a thick and noticeable Eastern European accent which seemed to diminish over time, and next thing you know, in Avengers: Infinity War, Maximoff was already speaking without an accent. It would later make a comeback in Avengers: Endgame but now in WandaVision, her Sokovian speaking voice is once again ignored.

Olsen has been asked by a lot of people about it for years now but she seems to keep mum regarding the issue. Now, the 31-year-old actress is finally addressing her character's accent and explained why it's once again non-existent in WandaVision.

In a recent interview with Collider, Elizabeth revealed the origins of her Sokovian accent, saying that she, along with her dialect coach and MCU co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson who played Quicksilver came up with it.

She said: "The Sokovia accent was created by me and Aaron [Taylor-Johnson] and our dialect coach. Because it's a fake country, we could find different sources of Slavic sounds. We wanted to make sure it didn't sound Russian because Black Widow speaks Russian, and so we just needed to sound more like Slovakian."

Elizabeth continued: "So we created these sound changes that worked for Aaron's British accent going to Slovakia basically and my American accent so that we sounded related" As for Wanda completely losing her accent in WandaVision, Olsen had a simple explanation for it: "In WandaVision, she is playing the role of being in an American sitcom. So it's not gone. It is absolutely still there."

Personally, I don't mind the fact that she has the "power" to change accents. But kidding aside, considering Wanda has been residing in the United States for a couple of years now, it's safe to assume that she was able to adapt to how Americans speak, and quite frankly, we shouldn't be arguing over it.

WandaVision is now streaming on Disney+.
