A few days removed from WandaVision's explosive eighth episode and Marvel fans are still gushing over the latest entry to the fan-favorite series and quite frankly, it isn't that hard to understand why as Episode 8 pretty much delivered and fired on all cylinders.
"Previously On" finally gave us a detailed narrative of Wanda's tragic and traumatic past in Sokovia which led to her resentment of Tony Stark. Not only that, but it reveals that Maximoff has always had her powers long before Strucker's experiment with the Mind Stone took place. This could mean that Marvel Studios has already retconned Wanda Maximoff as a mutant.
Initially, the Maximoff twins were never presented as mutants in the billion-dollar franchise. In fact, Avengers: Age of Ultron sort of explains that their powers came from Loki's scepter which houses the Mind Stone but there's a reason for it. While Fox and Marvel Studios came to an agreement about the Maximoffs, the MCU's parent company wasn't allowed to refer to their mutant origins.
Now that Disney pretty much owns Fox, the X-Men rights have finally reverted back to Marvel, and of course, considering the mutants are on their way to the MCU in the not-so-distant future, there's no reason why they wouldn't retcon Wanda as a mutant herself. After all, they are now officially referring to the character as the Scarlet Witch.
Several theories have suggested that Wanda may be responsible for "creating" the mutants through the hex but with the confirmation that Maximoff has always had her superhuman abilities, I believe there's no reason to come up with a new story for the existence of the X-Men.
WandaVision's finale episode will premiere this Friday on Disney+.
