WandaVision's Episode 5 left the entire Marvel fandom stunned when it was revealed that Evan Peters has "reprised" his role as Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver, a character he portrayed in Fox's X-Men franchise. Peters has always been a favorite amongst fans, thanks to his now-iconic and jaw-dropping scenes which showcased the speedster's true capabilities.
However, not everyone was pleased to see him back as a lot of MCU fans were hoping to see Aaron Taylor-Johnson make his grand comeback as Wanda Maximoff's twin brother. Initially, I thought the reason behind Peters taking up the role was because Wanda couldn't bring a deceased person back to life.
The reason why she was able to "resurrect" Vision after his death is because the synthezoid's corpse was in her possession. Still, fans are confused as to why they didn't see ATJ back in WandaVision but apparently, Kevin Feige has a good reason for it.
The Marvel Studios boss reveals why they chose to have Evan Peters onboard instead of the Avengers: Age of Ultron actor. Apparently, Peters' returning as "Pietro Maximoff" has always been the plan but he didn't deny that they also considered bringing back Taylor-Johnson to reunite with co-star Elizabeth Olsen.
During Disney+'s TCA virtual press tour (via The Wrap), Feige revealed that Evan being cast as Pietro was "just another way that certain people were messing around with Wanda." He would also confirm that although they considered bringing back Aaron, they ultimately went with their initial plan. "So there were all sorts of discussions, but I believe we ended up going with what you saw relatively early on in the development process."
Reading between the lines, Feige pretty much confirmed that Evan Peters was always the original choice to play Pietro in WandaVision and that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was only a back-up plan presumably if things went south. While that may suck for the original MCU Pietro, when you think about it from a story perspective, it makes the most sense considering the show is meant to explore how Wanda Maximoff tries to mess with reality.
And honestly, I've always preferred Evan's take on the iconic Marvel character so I'm pretty pleased to see him back although we're still not quite sure if he's in fact the true Pietro.
WandaVision premieres new episodes every Friday on Disney+.
