At its Anime Expo 2022 industry panel, Crunchyroll announced that a Tomo-chan Is A Girl! anime adaptation is in the works. A release date, trailer, and voice cast for the show have also been revealed.

The announcement trailer for the anime gives us our first look at this new romantic comedy which features an interesting premise where a tomboyish girl falls in love with her best friend.

Tomo-chan Is A Girl! is a four-panel manga series by Fumita Yanagida which was serialized on the Twi4 Twitter account and Saizensen from April 2015 to July 2019. The series was then published in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment.

The series follows Tomo Aizawa, a boyish high school girl who develops a crush on her childhood friend, Junichiro Kubota.

While Tomo-chan attempts to confess her feelings to Junichiro, she fails time and time again as her dense best friend only sees her as “one of the boys.” In fact, Junichiro didn’t even know that Tomo-chan was a girl until middle school.

As a popular manga, the Tomo-chan Is A Girl! anime features a cast of popular Japanese voice actors, as well as a solid staff list.
