Theories were built around Jane Foster as she was confirmed to be the new wielder of the Mjolnir that she is a variant of the ex-girlfriend of the titular character, however, the official trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder suggests otherwise – she is the same one as before, the scientist who chased the god in the first two installments.
Thor: Love and Thunder: Is Jane a Variant?
With the introduction of the multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the questions on whether one character is a variant of another lingers especially when one undergoes a drastic change and in the case of Jane Foster, she’s no longer the scientist that everyone saw in the first two Thor films but rather, she’s all toned and muscular donning the suit of the Mighty Thor.
When the first teaser of Thor: Love and Thunder arrived, Jane Foster first wields the reforged Mjolnir to the surprise of everyone, even Thor. Theories around her suggested that she may be a variant of the Jane that was introduced before in the MCU.
However, the official trailer of the movie confirms that Jane Foster remains to be the same one as before, just looking different given that she now has a costume and she had some real muscular gains. The trailer also suggested that her time apart from Thor was shortened because she may have been blipped by Thanos.

At one point, conversing with Thor, Jane pointed out the years they last saw each other and she said it is something between three to four years when Thor had the days clearly in his head that it has been eight years and seven months. Considering the time gap for the two of them, Jane may have lost five years of her life with the blip.
Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to delve into the world of the gods, a possible alternate reality or another realm yet to be introduced in the franchise. The villain, Gorr the God Butcher, is much-awaited and with his arrival coming near, so does the entrance of the Greek gods in the narrative.
