The Walking Dead Season 7 Trailer Teases a Final Stand in February

And it's safe to say that The Walking Dead is back from its comatose-inducing snooze episodes the past few weeks. If the mid-season finale is any indication of the showrunners' plans for the series, I guess this is where their promise from the start of the season really lies.

AMC has released a new trailer teasing what's to come when the show returns from its break. And it proves one thing: the heroes are not yet down for the count just yet.

I just have to react—why this late in the game though? We trudged through how many episodes of microscopic storytelling, sometimes confused writing, and deus ex machina events that made us question where things were going.

We could have done away with the entire middle part of the half season—I'm guessing episode 3 to 6—and compiled all of that action and progress into one and a half episodes of interwoven stories.

What made The Walking Dead great during its early seasons was not the many zombie deaths, expected or not. It's the pacing that showed put us at the edge of our seats. Even the episodes where nothing gory or shocking happens, we felt some kind of progress in the show. But for those four episodes, it felt like we were being introduced to characters that were fleshed out in a very half-baked manner before we really started caring about them.

Granted, maybe the showrunners wanted to give everyone a moment in the spotlight, so we won't feel like the rise up against the saviors is such a random and unprecedented act. And that mid-season finale is, yet again another cleverly-devised ending that's basically a milder cliffhanger than last season's finale, one which worked because of the episode divisions and count.

But The Walking Dead could have saved itself the slight dip and the doubting stance that fans have taken after the big hype. It could have gone with a more interwoven and immersive storytelling. Still, I'm happy that they were able to pick it back up at the last minute.

Because let's face it, we're all excited to see where this last stand will get us when The Walking Dead returns in February.

The Mass Effect: Andromeda trilogy may be interwoven with the game's narrative.
