The Walking Dead (Slightly) Rises from the Dead

The new ratings are out, and it seems that the momentous encounter between Negan and Carl did wonders for viewers of The Walking Dead.

In a numbers rundown from Zap2It, it looks like the post-apocalyptic series has finally seen a slight bump up in terms of viewer count. Tracing back the progress of the seventh season, The Walking Dead had opened strong with 17.03 million viewers and an 8.4 rating. It had quickly declined steeply by 5 million on the second episode alone, while dwindling ever so slowly during the course of the season's run until episode 6, where it had 10.40 million viewers.

For the Sing Me a Song episode, there's a slight rise to reach 10.48 million, though it maintained a 4.9 rating similar to the previous week's episode.

It's almost painful to see the decline, since the next episode will already be the mid-season finale. And we all have our fingers crossed as to how the show plans on end this half's run.

Definitely, cliffhangers are out, unless they want a rampage. After stringing us along the half season with introductions, a cliffhanger should be the last thing they'd do. It could be a teaser as to how the next half will be like, but it better be a good one to keep audience's attention up.

Again, that's not to say that The Walking Dead has become a bottom feeder in terms of viewership. It remains the highest so far, followed by its talk show The Talking Dead. We'll have to see some very real developments soon, if we want season 7 to hold even a nice place in our memories of the show.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays, 9 pm on AMC.
