Whenever it’s a Marvel movie, people already know that they need to stay for the entire duration of the film. The audience can always expect not just one, but two post-credits scenes.

These post-credits scenes are important because they give a glimpse of what’s to come, as well as hints of a potential sequel. The official runtime of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is 2 hours and 30 minutes, and this already includes a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene.

So, what happened in the mid-credits scene and the post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Can we expect another Guardians movie?

In the mid-credits scene, we see the new Guardians of the Galaxy assembled. The members of the new Guardians of the Galaxy include Rocket and Groot, Kraglin, Phyla-Vell (a girl rescued from the High Evolutionary), Cosmo the Spacedog, and a reformed Adam Warlock along with Blurp, the fuzzy alien.

In the scene, the new team is on a mission to help a planet. Rocket (now Captain Rocket) was holding the Zune Peter gave him. He then asks the new Guardians about their favorite music artists.

Phyla-Vell says she likes Britney Spears and Korn. Kraglin chooses Garth Brooks. Cosmo says “The Carpenters do not have a single bad song”, while Adam Warlock picks King Crimson.

As their enemies approach, Rocket wakes up Groot, who now looks bigger. Subsequently, the new Guardians of the Galaxy head into battle with “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone playing in the background.

In the post-credits scene, we see Peter and his grandfather eating breakfast together where Peter talks about what he’s going to do with his life now that he’s no longer living as a superhero.

They talk about Peter mowing their neighbors’ lawns for a living and the fact that Peter’s step-brother (who’s not seen in the film) is not pulling his weight. A final title card then appears on the screen, which states “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return”.

Director James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last Guardians film. Recently, he shared on Twitter that he “always meant for the story to stop with Vol. 3”.

Additionally, actors of the original members of the Guardians of the Galaxy such as Zoe Saldaña and Dave Bautista said that they’re done with their characters after the third Guardians film.

However, with a new team in place, it could be possible that there would still be another Guardians movie, even though the original members (except Rocket and Groot) would no longer be in it. And the post-credits scene also shows that Star-Lord may have a solo film, or he could still appear in upcoming Marvel movies.

For now, there are no announcements yet. But at least we know that the Guardians move on and get the peace they deserve in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
