Marvel has just released the final film in the Guardians trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. In the third movie, the Guardians go on a mission to save Rocket Raccoon.

To save Rocket’s life, the Guardians need to find an override code that will turn off the kill switch attached to Rocket, which in turn, would allow them to use a med-pack on him.

The Guardians also aim to protect Rocket from his maker, the High Evolutionary, a scientist who specializes in creating hybrid creatures.

So, what happened to the Guardians of the Galaxy after they defeated the High Evolutionary? Did the Guardians of the Galaxy split up in Vol. 3? The answer is yes; the Guardians of the Galaxy choose to go their separate ways.

After defeating the High Evolutionary, and saving Rocket and the Galaxy, all the original members of the Guardians of the Galaxy go their separate ways.

Peter opens up about leaving. He ultimately decides not to run away from his past anymore and goes back to Earth to his grandfather after not visiting him ever since Yondu abducted him.

Mantis says that she needs to discover what she really wants and figure out who she is. Drax offers to go with her, but she responds that she needs to do it alone. So Mantis leaves, and she brings along the Abilisks with her.

Nebula and Drax stay in Knowhere to help rebuild the city. Nebula shares that she wants to focus on building a home for the children and animals that they saved.

She then asks Drax to help raise the rescued children because she realized that Drax wasn’t born to be a “destroyer”, but that he can actually be a dad.

Gamora goes back to her newfound family, the Ravagers. Before she leaves though, she tells Peter that she thinks he and her other version had a lot of fun.

And lastly, Rocket is appointed by Peter as the new captain of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and he and Groot stay with the new team. Groot utters his first real words: "I love you guys".

In the mid-credits scene, we see the new Guardians of the Galaxy assembled. The members of the new Guardians of the Galaxy include Rocket and Groot, Kraglin, Phyla-Vell (a girl rescued from the High Evolutionary), Cosmo the Spacedog, and a reformed Adam Warlock, along with the fuzzy alien Blurp.

In the scene, the new team is on a mission to help a planet. They all discuss their favorite music artists. Moments later, they head into battle with “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone playing in the background.

Director James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last Guardians movie. Recently, he shared on Twitter that he “always meant for the story to stop with Vol. 3”.

Additionally, actors of the original members of the Guardians of the Galaxy such as Zoe Saldaña and Dave Bautista said that they’re done with their characters after the third Guardians film.

However, with a new team in place, it could be possible that there would still be another Guardians movie, even though the original members (except Rocket and Groot) would no longer be in it.

Furthermore, in the post-credits scene, we see Peter and his grandfather eating breakfast together where Peter talks about what he’s going to do now that he’s no longer living a superhero life.

A final title card then appears on the screen which states “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return”. But as to how or when, that part remains to be seen. Perhaps this would be further explored in upcoming Marvel movies or in another Guardians film.
