So what could it mean now that The Matrix 4 is titled The Matrix: Resurrections? It's certainly in line with the previous sequels that also had a subtitle starting with the letter "R". In addition to that, it could be a reference to Neo's fate.

The Matrix movies have clearly implied that Neo is the Messiah who will save us all. With that in mind, there is a possibility that he will sacrifice his own life for humanity then still get resurrected in the end. Additionally, it could mean that Neo could resurrect certain characters like Morpheus in the sequel.

For now, it looks like the working title is Matrix: Resurrections. However, there is a huge chance that this will be changed right before the trailer is dropped. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

The Matrix 4, or The Matrix: Resurrections, will also star Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Lambert Wilson, and Daniel Bernhardt. The cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Eréndira Ibarra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith, and Ian Pirie although their roles have not yet been disclosed.

The Matrix: Resurrections premieres in selected theaters and on HBO Max on December 22.
