Matrix 4 Casting, Release Date, Plot: What We Know So Far

It's no secret that we'll get to see Keanu Reeves in action all over again in The Matrix 4. But what do we truly know about the highly anticipated sequel? Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming action film.

It has already been confirmed that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss will be returning as Neo and Trinity, respectively in The Matrix 4. This has led to fans wondering whether other characters like Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus and Hugo Weaving's Agent Smith will be back as well. However, it has been confirmed that neither character will return in the sequel.

So who else will be returning in The Matrix 4? The other confirmed actors are Jada Pinkett-Smith, who will reprise her role as Niobe. Likewise, Lambert Wilson will be back as The Merovingian while Daniel Bernhardt will return as Agent Smith's companion Agent Johnson.

Although we know who these actors are playing, The Matrix 4 has been very secretive about the roles that the new cast members will portray. The new names attached to the sequel are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Eréndira Ibarra, Priyanka Chopra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith, Ian Pirie, Lavish, and Ellen Hollman. However, their roles have yet to be revealed.

There is a possibility we'll learn more about these new characters when the trailer for the fourth Matrix movie is finally dropped. However, that may still take time and we might not see a teaser until the second quarter of 2021. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

The Matrix 4 will be directed by Lana Wachowski and is currently scheduled for theatrical release on December 22, 2021. It will also stream digitally on HBO Max on the same date.
