The Mandalorian Theory Suggests Season 3 Erases Sequel Trilogy from Canon

It's crystal clear that The Mandalorian restored the dying faith of a lot of Star Wars fans in the franchise and with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni at the helm of things, we can rest assured that the future direction of the sci-fi juggernaut will be more than just promising — it'll actually be great.

Still, the infamous sequel trilogy led by actress Daisy Ridley has left quite the bitter taste in the mouths of diehard followers of the saga but what if we told you that TheMandalorian's third season, as well as the upcoming Lucasfilm projects, could erase them from existence?

An interesting theory from Reddit user ORION93 suggests that The Mandalorian and the other shows announced during Disney's Investor Day 2020 are set in a separate timeline. The theory says that the two timelines diverged during the "world between worlds" arc of Star Wars: Rebels which saw Ezra Bridger save Ahsoka Tano via time travel.

The theory adds that The Mandalorian's timeline is the one where she survives, but the sequel trilogy of movies — The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker — exist in the timeline where she dies. This explains why Tano was among the Force ghosts that Rey heard during her battle with Palpatine.

It would definitely be a risky endeavor trying to "correct" the saga but if they can pull it off flawlessly without any plot holes, I think a lot of fans will be pleased. However, it can't be denied that the sequel trilogy still has its loyal fanbase and to its credit, the last three films have introduced us to unique characters and it would be a shame if they got erased from the official canon.

All episodes of The Mandalorian can be streamed exclusively on Disney+.
