A new Ahsoka TV series is coming to Disney+ starring Rosario Dawson. Ahsoka has been one of the key figures in the animated Star Wars shows, and The Mandalorian Season 2 just featured her live-action debut Lucasfilm and character creator Dave Filoni will continue the story of Anakin Skywalker's Padawan in a new Disney+ TV series.
In the second season of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano provided important information about Grogu (a.k.a. Baby Yoda). She helped set Grogu and Din Djarin on a new path would help Grogu determine his future. Just weeks after the Ahsoka episode titled The Jedi was released, Lucasfilm confirmed that she is getting her own series.
The Ahsoka TV show is just one of the new additions of Star Wars projects Lucasfilm confirmed in December 2020. Rogue Squadron, Obi-Wan, and Lando are just some of the other titles announced.
Here's everything we know so far about Disney+'s Ahsoka TV series:
Ahsoka TV Series Release Date
In December 2020, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy appeared at Disney Investor Day to reveal the future of Star Wars and other projects in development from the company, including 10 new projects for Star Wars and the next Indiana Jones film. Kennedy didn't reveal much about the projects, and for the Ahsoka TV series, she didn't share any details other than just confirming that it's in development. She revealed the show's logo, but that could change over time.
Disney hasn't announced a release date for Ahsoka TV series yet, which is understandable considering how the coronavirus pandemic has affected the production of various film and TV show projects. Hopefully, the production will return to normal rate in 2021. The series will most likely be released in Disney+ sometime in 2020 following The Mandalorian Season 3 and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
Ahsoka TV Series Story & Character Details
Before Ahsoka's debut at The Mandalorian Season 2, rumors of an Ahsoka spin-off series have been going around, and reports claim that it will feature Star Wars Rebels characters Hera, Zeb, and Chopper continuiing their quest to find the missing Ezra Bridger. This would follow the last chronological appearance of Ahsoka before she encountered Din Djarin and Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian Season 2.
The Mandalorian Season 2 revealed that Ahsoka is on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn who went to hyperspace with Ezra Bridger at the end of Star Wars Rebels. Its story will most likely center on her pursuit of Thrawn since the Ahsoka series will be set around the same time as The Mandalorian.
Ahsoka TV Series Cast
Only the Ahsoka actress Rosario Dawson has been confirmed to be in the upcoming Star Wars series so far, but assuming that the series will revolve around Ahsoka's hunt for Thrawn, Lucasfilm may be quietly searching for an actor to play the live-action version of the fan-favorite villain. Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch is a clear favorite to play the Chiss tactician, but no word yet if Lucasfilm is considering him for the role.
The show might also introduce a live-action version of Ezra and Sabine Wren, so if the show follows that storyline, there's a good chance we might see these Star Wars Rebels characters in a live-action series.
