The Gray Man is one of Netflix’s most ambitious projects to date, as the streaming site is pulling all the stops and sparing no expense with a reported $200 million budget. The Gray Man Release Date: When Will the Netflix Movie Come Out?
The Gray Man premiered in theatres on July 15, 2022, and will only be available for viewing for a week. Fans who want to see the movie at home don’t have to wait for long, though, because the movie will premiere on Netflix exactly one week after its debut, on July 22, 2022.

Ryan Gosling is Sierra Six
Ryan Gosling stars in the movie as the Court Gentry, also known as Sierra Six. Gentry is a freelance assassin who is wanted across the globe for various crimes. Ryan Gosling is perhaps most famous for his roles in romantic movies like La La Land and The Notebook, but he is not new in making action movies, for he has also starred in films like Drive, Fracture, and Blade Runner 2024.
Chris Evans is Lloyd Hansen
Chris Evans, who is all known as Steve Rogers or Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays Lloyd Hansen, Gentry’s former colleague who is now chasing after him. We are used to seeing Evans as the protagonist (cue the Captain America theme playing in the background), but he has played the villain before in the film Knives Out.
Ana de Armas as Agent Miranda
Ana de Armas plays Agent Dani Miranda, who works with Hansen to capture Gentry. Armas has also played characters in action movies before, having worked with Gosling in Blade Runner 2024 and with Evans in Knives Out.
Billy Bob Thornton also joins the cast as Donald Fitzroy, the former handler of Gentry, also chasing after him. We will also see Jessica Henwick, Rege-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, and Julia Butters. Dhanush and Alfre Woodard also join the cast.
The Gray Man Crew: Who are the Creative Minds Behind the Scenes?
The Gray Man is directed by the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony. It was based on the New York Times bestseller of the same title written by Mark Greaney. Joe Russo, Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay.
The Russo Brothers already have a new Netflix original movie in the works, featuring Millie Bobbie Brown of The Stranger Things fame. They will be creating the movie for The Electric State, a story about a young girl and her small yellow robot as they travel across a strange American landscape, filled with the remnants of battle robots.
The Gray Man Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Movie?
The Gray Man follows the story of the novel it was based on. It tells the story of Court Gentry, who had the codename Sierra Six. Gentry was a part of the CIA’s Sierra Project, where agents were trained so that they could be sent as the last resort for the agency. Upon an unspecified betrayal, Gentry was convicted and sent to jail, from where he escapes and begins to offer his services as a hired assassin. Because of his fearsome skills, he earns ‘street cred’ and becomes known as a deadly assassin.
When Gentry uncovers incriminating evidence against the agency, his old colleagues are going after him to keep him quiet. One of his old co-workers has his eye on him in particular – Lloyd Hansen. Hansen was one of the top intelligence agents from the CIA, and he had little reservations about his desire to capture and perhaps kill the infamous Sierra Six. This brings us to a high-stake, vicious battle between the two across the continents, with Gentry only relying on his skills, instincts, and resourcefulness to escape Hansen and bring secrets to light.
Though the basic premise of the movie and the novel are the same, we will have to wait and see how much of the book is directly adapted into the movie.

Based on the Gray Man book series by Mark Greaney, the plot of the film unfolds as the CIA’s most skilled mercenary (Ryan Gosling) — whose true identity is known to none — accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets and a psychopathic former colleague puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.
There is still no information if there will be other The Gray Man movies, though there are already 11 novels in The Gray Man franchise.
The Gray Man Trailer: Is There a Trailer for The Gray Man?
Netflix released the trailer for The Gray Man on May 24, 2022. The trailer gives us a preview of the action-packed scenes that the movie promises to deliver. It gives the basic premise of the film where Evans’ Lloyd Hansen chases after Goslings’ Gentry, who has in his possession something of importance. We catch a glimpse of some of the stars included in the film, like Ana de Armas and Rege-Jean Page.
