Netflix Unveils First Look Images at The Russo Brothers' Upcoming Action Film The Gray Man

After the success of the last two Avengers films, the Russo brothers are expanding their horizons as they venture into more projects beyond the MCU.

Last year, they have the drama film Cherry which starred Tom Holland. This year, they have the action film The Gray Man and now we finally have our first official previews of the highly-anticipated flick.

Netflix has unveiled the first look images at the upcoming Russo brothers-directed action film The Gray Man. Based on Mark Greaney’s novel series, Ryan Gosling plays Court Gentry, a CIA operative recruited from a federal penitentiary to act as a shadow assassin for the agency.

Officially, he doesn’t exist, hence his nickname “The Gray Man.” However, soon after, he becomes the prey as he finds himself fleeing from a global manhunt headed by his former colleague, Lloyd Hansen (played by Chris Evans).

You can check the first look images from the film below:

“The Gray Man is an incredibly mysterious character with a highly secretive past. In essence, he’s a ghost,” the Russo brothers explained to Tudum. “A minimalist, [whose] job is to hide in plain sight. Kill when he needs to kill, and disappear.”

They continued, “Ryan is exceptional at communicating volumes through a look or a gesture. Creating an interior life that translates in the most subtle and sublime ways. He also has fantastic control of his physicality. In essence, he is The Gray Man (minus the kill orders).”

Regarding the casting of Evans, who they worked with before in the MCU, as the main villain of the film, they said, “Chris is one of the most technically gifted actors we’ve ever worked with. Highly trained. This allows him to take great risks as a performer. He's also a brilliant student of human behavior, which makes all of his choices, whether he’s playing Captain America or a sociopathic ex-CIA agent, [emotionally] truthful. But we do want to go on record and say, where Ryan Gosling may be The Gray Man, Chris Evans is certainly not a sociopath. Well, as far as we know…”

While the images that they released didn’t really give us anything, they still looked impressive and they promised a great and entertaining spy thriller that is reminiscent of action franchises such as James Bond, Mission: Impossible, and the Jason Bourne films. It also makes us look forward to the first trailer which they might release soon where they will show extensive footage of the film.

Besides Gosling and Evans, the film also co-stars Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, and Alfre Woodard. Joe Russo, Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay.
