At the end of The Flash season 9 finale, Barry Allen/The Flash chooses three new speedsters to protect Central City. He tells baby Nora a story and that she has to believe in the impossible.

Barry shares that he’s faster than the speed of sound, but it wasn’t always easy. He shares that he lost people he cared about the most when he was just a kid.

Barry then tells baby Nora that he doesn’t want the same to happen to her, and so he and Iris decided to do the impossible.

Barry Allen then narrates that his family’s gifts shouldn’t just belong to them anymore. He explains that while his friend Oliver Queen thinks that the lightning chose him, it’s time for Barry to do the choosing.

So, at the end of The Flash Season 9 finale, Barry Allen picks three people to become speedsters: Avery Ho, Max Mercury, and Jess Chambers. So, who are these new speedsters in The Flash season 9 finale?

If the character seems familiar, it’s because she already appeared in the previous season of The Flash. It can be recalled that Avery Ho was a love interest for Bart Allen in The Flash season 8 episode 6 titled “Impulsive Excessive Disorder.”

In that episode, Bart and Nora travel back to 2013 due to some temporal shifts. They meet Avery Ho, a scientist at Fast Track Labs who is studying temporal dynamics.

Bart and Nora reveal that they’re from the future and Avery helps them lessen the casualties. Before Bart goes back to 2049, he shares a kiss with Avery.

In The Flash season 9 finale, we see Avery on a phone call explaining that she had some car trouble before she sees a lightning bolt sent by Barry.

In the DC Comics, Avery Ho is a member of the Justice League of China (JLC). She got her powers from a Speed Force storm that hit Central City, which led her to become the Flash of China.

In The Flash season 8, Barry saw someone named “Max” in the Speed Force. Max Mercury appears in The Flash series finale on a motorcycle when he’s about to go home. But when he sees the lightning in the sky, he says “Maybe not.”

In the DC Comics, Max Mercury is a speedster who goes by many names, including Windrunner, Whip Whirlwind, Lightning, and Quicksilver. He becomes a mentor to other heroes like Bart Allen/Impulse and Wally West/Kid Flash.

Unlike Avery Ho and Max Mercury, Jess Chambers wasn’t teased in previous seasons of The Flash. In The Flash series finale, Jess Chambers was inside a car until their coffee floats. Jess steps out of the car and sees the lightning sent by Barry.

In the DC Comics, Jess is a non-binary speedster who is The Flash of Earth-11.

The Flash season 9 officially ends the Arrowverse. However, showrunner Eric Wallace said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he’s “hopeful that the Arrowverse is not over.”

Commenting on the ending of The Flash Season 9, Wallace said that The Flash series finale shows how the Arrowverse could continue:

"I've wrapped up a lot of things in the series finale, and it ends on a very hopeful note that shows you how the future of the Arrowverse could continue in some way, shape, or form. It hopefully gives people closure, but also some hope for the future, because otherwise it's very sad to think that there's no more crossovers, that there won't be an Arrowverse after May 24. That saddens me because I love it so much, and it was such a big part of not just my life, but a whole fan base's life."

Additionally, even though Superman & Lois is not part of the Arrowverse, Wallace shared that he would tell showrunner Todd Helbing to “sneak some Arrowverse” should the series be renewed for a fourth season.

So probably, if there would be some sort of crossover, we would see these three new speedsters from The Flash season 9 finale again.
