The Crown Season 6 won’t premiere until next year since Season 5 has not yet even aired. But there are already some changes to the direction of the hit Netflix series. Initially, showrunner Peter Morgan confirmed that The Crown wouldn’t include Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship, as well as their Megxit, but it seems his plans were not cast in stone after all.

The Crown Season 6 Could Have A Spinoff On Netflix Centered On Prince Harry, Meghan Markle

According to The Sun, Netflix bosses are urging Morgan to include more recent royal family stories involving Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William, and Prince Charles.

Prior to the recent reports, Morgan was set on ending The Crown Season 6 in the year 2002 to include the death of Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret, as well as the Queen Mother. However, next year’s installment will reportedly end in 2005, which was when Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles tied the knot in a civil ceremony.

The new ending to The Crown Season 6 could reportedly pave the way for a spinoff to be released later on. And the future spinoff and episodes will focus on Prince Harry and Markle’s decision to quit The Firm, as well as their issues with Prince Charles, Prince William, and the other members of the royal family.

“It's a small but significant shift because it's seen as marking the start of an era which becomes more focused on Princes William and Harry and their father. The marriage of Charles and Camilla is treated like the end of one turbulent period in the Windsors' story, and the start of a whole new one,” a source said.

Prince Harry, Royal Family Watched The Crown

Royal expert Angela Levin previously revealed that Prince Harry watches The Crown.

“When I met Harry at Kensington Palace the first question he asked me was, 'Are you watching The Crown?' I mumbled and said, ‘Are you and the rest of the Royal Family?’ He said, ‘Yes, we're all absolutely watching everything but I'm going to insist it stops before it reaches me,’” Levin said (via Marie Claire).

The Crown Season 6 Showrunner Didn’t Initially Intend To Include Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s Relationship In The Series

During his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan also said that it’s unlikely for him to include present-day storylines centered on Prince Harry and Markle because the couple is still on their journey. As such, no one knows how their story will end.

“One wishes some happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago. I sort of have in my head a 20-year rule. That is enough time and enough distance to really understand something, to understand its role, to understand its position, to understand its relevance,” he said.

So, it’s unclear if there are really plans for a spinoff after The Crown Season 6 wraps up or if the reports are all just based on hearsays.
