Now that John Wick: Chapter 4's box office spot has been taken by Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, many can't help but look forward to the next John Wick movie. But while there hasn't been any confirmation on a John Wick: Chapter 5, there are two other spinoff projects to be excited about.

One of these projects, Ballerina, is currently in production and won't be released at least until next year. So that leaves us with The Continental, an upcoming TV series that will be released on Peacock. The good news, however, is that it will be released this year.

Here's what we know about The Continental right now.

When Is The Continental Release Date on Peacock?

The Continental was first announced in June 2017. It's been a long wait but hopefully, it will be worth it when the show gets released. Thankfully, a release date for Peacock has already been set for September 2023. The exact day, however, has not yet been revealed so we will have to stay tuned for this announcement.

There will be a total of three episodes for The Continental. Each episode has a runtime of 90 minutes, which means they are mini-movies. The first and last episodes were directed by Albert Hughes, meanwhile, episode two was directed by Charlotte Brändström.

What Is The Continental Show About?

The Continental TV series looks into the backstory of one of the franchise's most important characters, Ian McShane's Winston, who is the owner and manager of The Continental Hotel in all John Wick movies. This means the show will be a prequel of the franchise, which will give avid fans more reason to enjoy the John Wick universe. They'll finally get to see what Winston was like in his younger years, along with Charon (played by Lance Reddick).

Producer Kevin Beggs explained in an interview with Deadline:

“What we’re exploring in The Continental is the young Winston and how it came to be that he and his team of confederates found their way into this hotel, which we have met for the first time in the movie franchise 40 years later.”

The Continental will be set in New York back in 1970, which will give a nostalgic vibe to the show. Producer Erica Lee also said:

“We give so little about each character and about the hotel in each movie that I think people were really excited to learn more and dig deeper into The Continental like, what does the cleaner there look like? What is the staff like? How do you get into The Continental? How are the gold coins made? So, with this timeline and this setting, we’re allowed to do a really deep dive into that and explore a lot of that stuff.”

Unfortunately, Keanu Reeves won't be returning to reprise his role as John Wick. Instead, he will be behind the scenes as a producer of the show. Beggs explained that the show is "way back pre-John Wick and even pre-young John Wick. That character is not finding his way into the universe."

This also means that the usual John Wick actors won't be back to reprise their roles. The cast of The Continental includes the following:

  • Colin Woodell (as Winston)
  • Ayomide Adegun (as Charon)
  • Mel Gibson (as Cormac)
  • Peter Greene (as Uncle Charlie)
  • Katie McGrath (as The Adjudicator)
  • Nhung Kate (as Yen)
  • Jessica Allain (as Lou)
  • Adam Shapiro (as Lemmy)
  • Sally Garnett (as The Concierge)
  • Mishel Prada (as KD)
  • Ben Robson (as Frankie)
  • Hubert Point-Du Jour (as Miles)
