The much-awaited fourth installment to the John Wick franchise has come out in theaters and, along with it, garnered the attention of its avid fanbase. John Wick: Chapter 4 has already earned over $150 million in less than a week since its release.
Because of its success, many are already hoping for a succeeding film in the franchise, or at least a number of spinoff shows that highlight the new characters that were introduced in this new movie. One such character that many are hoping will get a spinoff is Donnie Yen's Caine.
So when rumors started spreading, many can't help but wish it was true. With regards to that, here's everything we know about a potential Caine spinoff movie.
Will There Be a Caine Spinoff Movie?
We first met Caine (played by Donnie Yen) in John Wick: Chapter 4 as a blind assassin who is under the Marquis de Gramont's (played by Bill Skarsgård) henchman. It also becomes apparent to viewers that Caine is actually an old friend of Wick's who he was able to blackmail into helping him. This is where the spinoff talks originated from, since many are interested to know the relationship of the two in the past.
Speaking to Variety, Yen talked about the possibility of him returning to reprise his character in a spinoff project:
“I’d love to do a John Wick spinoff centered around Caine… there’s always ‘talks’ in Hollywood."
John Wick director, Chad Stahelski, also showed interest in pursuing this idea. Stahelski told Inverse:
“Of course I love my whole cast, but the interesting characters to me are the three that live. I love Akira. I love Caine. I love the Tracker. I wrote them because I’m fascinated where the avenues could go. I could go so many different directions with those three.”
But for now, nothing official has been announced, especially since there are two other John Wick spinoff projects that are currently in the works: Ballerina, which is currently in production, and The Continental, a Peacock TV series that will be released in September 2023.
For now, all we can do is wait for an announcement regarding Caine's future in the franchise.
