Based on a beloved manga of the same name, The Case Study of Vanitas follows Noe, a young vampire, and Vanitas, an overpowered human, as they grudgingly team up to rescue vampires from the corruption of their true name, while investigating disturbing mysteries in the vampire world.

To complicate matters, the enigmatic Vanitas makes life difficult for Noe, who, however, can't help being intrigued by his new companion. But as the two embark on occasionally hilarious adventures, there's still a shadow looming over their partnership. Noe, who narrates his story from a later time, reveals that he killed Vanitas at the end of their joint journey.

Attention: Spoilers below:

Episode 15 is largely devoted to Chloé and her backstory. Noé is shocked and hurt to find that the vampire has made a deal with Naenia, the creature responsible for his foster brother's death. He attempts to attack her, but he's no match for the Beast of Gédauvan, so he finds himself knocked out.

Chloé reminisces her early life up to the point where she tied her true name to Naenia; once the beloved daughter of the D' Apchiers family, Chloé turned into a vampire aged eleven and stopped aging since. The narrative doesn't explain why other characters, such as Noé and Jeanne have the appearance of young adults while Chloé retained a pre-teen appearance, but it's implied that this is because she was a human to begin with, then turned into a vampire due to alteration in the fabric of the world.

Chloé's father devoted his life to research in a vain attempt to make his daughter human again. After his death, Chloé continued his research, living a solitary life as the last member of the D'Apchiers family. Later in life, she met Lord Ruthven who used to be much more idealistic than the bitter man we met in the first cour. It was through Ruthven that Chloé met Jeanne, and started venturing outside.

Chloé's life was nevertheless a series of disappointments; Ruthven soon became disillusioned and tried taking Chloé's research for his use - her refusal ended their friendship. Jeanne wasn't allowed to stay with Chloé indefinitely, either, leaving the latter alone, and easy prey for Naenia.

Back in the present, Vanitas arrives in Chloé castle about to restore her true name. But Naenia will definitely not go without a fight, so we expect some action in the next episode!
