With his superhuman abilities, it’s no wonder Homelander followers are curious whether he plans to go solo anytime soon.

In his Reddit Ask Me Anything session, he sets the record straight after a user inquired if there is a need for him to team up with other Supes:

“The Seven’s not just a team, it’s a family. And I may sit at the head of the table, but... look, even Jesus had disciples.”

While this may sound like a made-up response by Vought’s PR team, fans would remember that Homelander often refers to The Seven as “the family that I never got,” having been raised as an experiment by Dr. Jonah Vogelbaum and his associates.

More accurately, he sees The Seven as an extension of himself and must always appear like gods on earth: ever-competent, powerful, and righteous. Hence, he has been vocal about his disappointment with a range of The Deep’s and A-Train’s transgressions, from their physical appearances to their decisions and behavior.

To maintain an elite representation of Supes, he has also been policing who gets in The Seven, filtering out Blindspot and a non-American like Silver Kincaid.

Outside his sentimental reasoning, the question remains: does an all-powerful being like Homelander need to be in a team or should he go solo?

Superhero Team-ups Bring the Approval Points

The Justice League, the parody inspiration for The Seven, lists the all-powerful Superman as one of its members. Throughout the years, fans have accepted the fact that Superman cannot do everything and be everywhere at once, so other heroes need to step in to cover all bases.

Likewise, Homelander as the face of superpowered individuals only jumps on major cases and mostly spends his time doing PR work, while The Deep deals with water-related matters, A-Train works on street-level crime-fighting, and Black Noir goes on undercover missions.

Speaking of PR, team-ups also make Supes appeal to a wider range of audiences. In Season 3, Vought made Starlight a co-captain of The Seven, for her market to complement Homelander's high ratings among white American males. The Seven's mass appeal keeps Vought's businesses patronised by the public and its shareholders satisfied.
