Erin Moriarty, star of The Boys Season 4, has spoken out against the toxic trolls who mock her online.

Moriarty portrays Annie January, a.k.a. Starlight, who, despite suffering sexual assault, blatant sexism, and Vought's obvious attempts to oversexualize her, stays under the corporation's grip in a supposedly empowered role.

Vought's sick marketing team constantly exploits Annie's virtuous nature to repair their brand until the events of Herogasm prompt Annie to quit the Seven on a livestream and eventually outed Homelander, Soldier Boy, and the whole of Vought.

Finally, Starlight escapes the excessively marketed superhero industry and becomes the symbol of justice she has always desired.

Erin Moriarty's Personal Struggles

Regrettably, Starlight's challenges as a woman and public personality are correctly shown in other media besides The Boys. In a recent Instagram post, Moriarty discusses the toxic fandom she has encountered. She has dealt with her fair share of abuse online.

"I've opened up a vein for this role and this kind of trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against," Moriarty wrote on Instagram.

"I've grown UP in this character's shoes (*emphasis on grown up -we change & evolve mentally AND physically). So with that I say: a) thank you to @butcherscanary b) this does break my heart."

Her comment refers to author @butcherscanary's piece #IStandWithStarlight?: The betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys' fans' and expresses her frustration with the trolls and terrible people who persistently torment her.

Starlight Actor's Struggles Continue On Throughout The Boys Season 4

Moriarty is referring to comments made about her appearance on social media, notably in Season 3 and now that The Boys Season 4 is currently in production, much like Starlight's lifetime of public exploitation.

Some The Boys fans seem to be more interested in Moriarty's supposedly transformed appearance than the actual show, as seen by comments calling her unattractive and assumptions that she had lost weight or gotten plastic surgery.

Because of the superfluous conversation surrounding her appearance, the actor is understandably upset and urges users to quit causing the problems that Annie herself is facing in the show.

The Boys Season 4 Release Date

The Boys Season 4 has not yet been given a premiere date, but let's analyze the show's regular cycle anyhow.

The first season of the show was filmed from May to October of 2018, and it debuted on Amazon Prime Video in July of the following year. Season 2's filming lasted from July 2019 to November 2019. In September 2020, the program returned to the streaming service.

That time frame got longer during the pandemic. Season 3 began filming in February 2021, and because COVID-19 required the crew to implement numerous safety precautions, production continued into September. The season will then premiere on June 3, 2022.

If Season 4 follows a similar path, we may expect filming to end in March 2023, give or take a few weeks.
