Taron Egerton Shoots Down Possibility of Joining the MCU

For the past several months, we've been hearing rumors and fancast of Kingsman and Rocketman star Taron Egerton as the MCU's new Wolverine. While we've never heard any confirmation from Marvel Studios, the actor did reveal that he had a meeting with the studio in the past about joining the franchise.

A lot of fans have been on board with the idea of Egerton playing the beloved mutant in the MCU after seeing the work that he has done in the last couple of years which proves that he is a versatile actor and has the capability of doing a great action role like Wolverine.

However, in a recent interview with Total Film (via The Direct), Egerton admitted that the possibility of joining the MCU may not happen anymore as he revealed that he is starting to lose interest in being part of the franchise as he is starting to get old and believed that the "ship has probably sailed."

"Well, the one that I mentioned is up for grabs, but I’m too old for it now. I think that ship has probably sailed. Yeah, that whole Wolverine thing – I get asked about it and no matter what you say, it gets turned into what people want you to say about it," he said.

"I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine. There’s no signs pointing towards that being the thing. And I just don’t know if I’m maybe… I don’t know. Maybe I’m getting to the point where that’s not what I want any more. I don’t know."

However, the actor also pointed out that he is still enjoying watching the MCU movies although he felt that it may no longer be the "right time" for him to play the new Wolverine in the franchise.

Egerton continued, "I’d never say never, and I do love those movies. I’ve really enjoyed watching them over the past 10, 15 years. But whether I… You know, it may not be that they’re the right thing for me any more. I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing [for my career]."

There are fans who may find this latest comment from Egerton unfortunate since a lot of them are rooting for him to nab the role. While the actor might seemingly no longer be in the cards to play the character, we're still far away from the casting of the new X-Men so the door has really not shut down for him.

Who knows, maybe it does happen at some point in the future. For now, we can enjoy first the return of Hugh Jackman in the role and see him say farewell to the role (again) before meeting the new Wolverine in the future.
