Taika Waititi Gives Discouraging Update on His Star Wars Movie

As the Star Wars franchise on television is thriving recently, there are still a lot of questions regarding its theatrical film slate. However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has hinted recently that they are still working on a lot of feature projects with Taika Waititi's film set to be the next one in line. So when are we finally going to see it? As it turns out, we still need to wait longer.

Speaking recently with The Wrap, Waititi revealed that his Star Wars movie is still in development and will not film this year since he is also busy with his other projects and he is still in the writing process.

"Not this year," Waititi said. "I’m going to be in New Zealand from August until the end of the year with Our Flag Means Death and Time Bandits and during that time I will still be writing. I’m still trying to figure out what the story is."

In a separate interview with SlashFilm, Waititi also shared his writing process so far on the film to which he said that he is still able to bring his tone and is also "throwing everything at the wall" in order to find the right idea for the story that he is trying to tell.

"No. No, I'm able to kind of bring my tone. At the moment it's just very early, because I... still haven't even finished the script. I'm still trying to come up with ideas and I'm mostly kind of in that part of the process where it's still very kind of open. And when I write, I kind of write every idea I've ever had and then start to kind of chisel it down into something. But I'm still throwing everything at the wall right now."

It might be disappointing for fans to hear that it will still take a long time before Waititi's Star Wars movie will finally happen and it looks like he is taking his time on writing the film. It is contrary to the previous statement from Kennedy, who hinted that the film will release in late 2023 which is now very unlikely since it will not start production this year.

Either way, it looks like the film is still going to happen and, knowing Waititi's capability as a filmmaker, we can presume that the wait is going to be worth it assuming that it will reach the production stage.
