Suicide Squad’s Joker Has Deleted Scenes, But Won’t Feature a Director’s Cut

Is this going to be a case of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice all over again?

While Suicide Squad is also not a favorite among critics following the early showing, there's another similar trend between this movie and the earlier DC movie.

Speaking to Collider, director David Ayer confirmed that there are over 10 minutes of material on The Joker that

It seems that The Joker's scenes are not all there is to it in the movie. Despite much of the hype around The Joker and Jared Leto's method acting over it, his character does not seem to get a lot of screen time.

There is a total of 10 or so minutes of The Joker shot for Suicide Squad. For the record, that's far from the 30 minutes of footage added to the extended cut. And from the looks of it, Ayer doesn't also feel that the additional footage will add too much to the movie either.

"But this cut of the movie is my cut, there's no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut. And that's one of the toughest things about writing, shooting, and directing a film, is you end up with these orphans and you f*cking love them and you think they'd be amazing scenes and do these amazing things but the film is a dictatorship, not a democracy, and just because something's cool and charismatic doesn't mean it gets to survive in the final cut. The flow of the movie is the highest master."

There is a hint that the footage is not just The Joker, but also Harley Quinn. As far as the editing work was concerned, Ayer shared that it took a lot of work to get Suicide Squad to where it was.

This isn't surprising considering that the Squad alone was already an entire group with individual back stories. The good thing about this is that fans may still see the extra Joker scenes once Suicide Squad arrives on Blu-ray. But as far as Ayer is concerned, the movie that we'll see in theaters is the one that he had envisioned.
