Suicide Squad Fans Appeal to Shut Down Rotten Tomatoes for Bad Reviews

Suicide Squad hasn't premiered in worldwide theaters yet, but early reviews are giving an eerily familiar déjà vu just five ago with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The negative reviews for the movie are more prolific than the slightly neutral to positive ones.

And just like that, the angry mob of fans has found a way to express their feelings: on the Internet. To be specific, it's through Change.org, where they are calling to have Rotten Tomatoes shut down due to the bad ratings it has now given to two DC movies.

The creators of the petition were quick to point out that they didn't expect the appeal to shut down the site. They admitted that it was the place where they can channel their frustration with the reviews.

"The aim of the petition is to deliver a message to the critics that there is (sic) a lot of people who disagree with their reviews. A lot of people the supporters and the opponents of the petition act like we are already going right now to shut down the site not it's just a way to express our anger."

Funnily enough, some commenters have pointed out that Rotten Tomatoes is actually partly owned by Warner Bros., which is the same studio as the DC franchise. Hence the same studio behind Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad isn't a newbie when it comes to Change.org petitions. While this appeal to shut down—or at least voice their angry thoughts against—Rotten Tomatoes is obviously the biggest, there have been other gripes that fans have taken to Change.org heights. Some of these involve having a neck snap in the movie and reshooting the entire thing to replace The Joker with either Gary Busey or Rhys Wakefield. Needless to say, these petitions got nowhere. Not that the most recent one will either.

Don't get me wrong. I've been one of those fans who truly wish that Suicide Squad will be that game-changer that will fix DC's plans for its cinematic universe. But while I've been tempering my expectations given the BvS fiasco, I'm still hoping that David Ayers and the rest of the Suicide Squad gang managed to pull off at least a good run that won't leave us angry or disappointed yet again.

Suicide Squad is coming to theaters on Aug. 5.
