Star Wars: Andor Showrunner Explains Why Cassian Doesn't Know About The Jedi

It's almost time for the final episode of Andor Season 1 and we are nowhere near to seeing a Jedi or any notable Force user in the new Star Wars series. This should be enough to explain why Cassian Andor and the people of Ferrix don't know about the Jedi Order or the existence of the Force. However, showrunner Tony Gilroy offers a better explanation as to why these people don't believe in lightsabers and the Force.

Tony Gilroy recently spoke to Collider where he was asked whether the Ferrix residents know about the Jedi, the Sith, and lightsabers. "That's one of the first things I asked. And you know what? Most people don't know. I don't think anybody on Ferrix knows anything about it. I don't think so," the showrunner said.

Considering that they were mostly ignored by the Galactic Empire until Cassian's arrival, the people of Ferrix may have survived on their own without any knowledge about the galaxy around them.

"I don't think they know about the royal family. I don't think they pay much mind to that," Gilroy said. "I mean, how many beings are in that gigantic galaxy? I think the vast majority of all of the creatures and beings and sentient things that are in the galaxy, I think the knowledge of the Jedi and the lightsaber is a pretty small number."

It does make sense and this possibility makes for a refreshing take on the people who exist in the Star Wars Universe. We love how Andor gives us a look at the people who don't rely on the Force and simply want to live freely.

The 12th and final episode of Andor Season 1 has not yet been given an official title. It is set to premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
