Star Wars: Alan Tudyk Shares Interesting Challenges While Working on Rogue One

One of the best things about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the former Imperial droid K-2SO, who was played by Alan Tudyk. However, the Firefly actor has just revealed that there were several challenges in bringing the character to life in the film.

In Rogue One, Kay-Too was obviously not fond of lead character Jyn Erso and the droid made it clear he was only being forced to get along with her. However, Tudyk has shared with Collider that his character almost went too far at the beginning of production because the original writer had other plans for the droid.

"There was a certain point early on where the story shifted. A new writer was brought in and things were changed. And so, I had met Jyn Erso's character one way, and they even used it in the trailers where I say, ‘Hello, Cassian said you are a friend. I will not kill you,'" Tudyk said.

He has a point here considering that the trailers seemed to depict a completely different story compared to what actually end up in the theatrical cut but the teasers had a lasting effect. He then explained that people attending conventions would ask him to repeat the line but he insisted that it wasn't in the film because "things changed."

Although it was confusing for the cast and crew at first, Tudyk was quick to point out that he enjoyed every minute of it because of the director and his favorite co-star.

"So that's tough. That's tricky. That can shake your faith. But in working with [director] Gareth Edwards, I love working with him. And Diego Luna is a lot of fun. There were a lot of pictures on set, like from on set, pictures that I got to see, and there's a lot of me and Diego, and I'm laughing. I'm just laughing my ass off a lot," Tudyk said.

It's great to know that Tudyk and Luna had real chemistry on the set of Rogue One. Sadly, we won't get to see that again in the upcoming Cassian Andor series. It was previously reported that Kay-Too will not appear in the highly anticipated Star Wars show.

He might not be in the first season of Andor but Tudyk is a busy man. He will appear in the Resident Alien series adaptation which will air on SYFY on January 27.

The Cassian Andor series will premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
