Squid Game Creator is Working on a New Show Based on Squid Game

There is little doubt that people are currently waiting for Squid Game Season 2. However, it looks like Hwang Dong-hyuk is already working on another project that isn't Squid Game but still sticks close to the hit series. Interestingly, the new show is a satirical comedy based on ... Squid Game!

Deadline reports that Hwang Dong-hyuk's latest project is tentatively called The Best Show on the Planet. The project, which is still in the early stages of development, will be a satirical comedy that will follow how Squid Game went from an idea that Hwang struggled to turn into a reality to becoming one of the biggest hits of 2021.

Fans who have been very curious about the show already know that Squid Game took several years in development as networks turned down Hwang's idea of desperate people having to kill each other for money by playing terrifying versions of children's games. It was a long road for the filmmaker who ultimately presented his project to Netflix and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Best Show on the Planet is not the only project that Hwang is working on these days. He is also hard at work on Squid Game Season 2 as well as a feature inspired by a novel by revered Italian essayist Umberto Eco. With that in mind, it looks like Hwang will be very busy in the next few months.

But when can we expect to see Squid Game Season 2? Hwang has already confirmed that he is still working out the premise of the second season. In addition to that, the creator has teased the possibility of bringing back Jung Ho-yeon despite the death of her character Kang Sae-byeok in the first season. Nevertheless, the series is expected to return to Netflix sometime in 2023.
