It's long been debated by Marvel fans which live-action version of Spider-Man is the most "amazing", "spectacular", "superior" of them all but in 2017, actress Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy pretty much ended the argument when she said that they made the best Spidey films, implying that nobody cares about the reboots that came after them. Dunst would obviously draw flak from fans because of her choice of words and even became "persona non grata" in the eyes of webheads at one point.

Four years since her controversial statements first surfaced, the actress is heavily rumored to reprise her role as Peter Parker's love interest in Spider-Man: No Way Home which is also rumored to feature her former on-screen partner Tobey Maguire. This week, Dunst was spotted in Los Angeles where the upcoming MCU film is doing reshoots and naturally, fans lost their minds.

However, even though Raimi trilogy fans are thrilled about the possibility of her reuniting with Maguire, modern-day fans of Spider-Man aren't too thrilled with Dunst's rumored cameo especially after she lambasted Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland's Spider-Man films several years back. Personally, I think the backlash Kirsten received for her 2017 comments was totally uncalled for. I mean, do you expect her to call her Spidey films bad when a lot of people still hold it to this day in such high regard? Maybe she came across as arrogant but she has every right in the world to speak her mind and let's be honest, Sam Raimi's trilogy still holds up pretty well so she's not entirely wrong.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinemas on December 17, 2021.
