Spider-Man 2099 Trends as Fans React to El Muerto Film

We got a whole bunch of updates from Sony Pictures at CinemaCon and it looks like the Spider-Verse is truly expanding soon. It has just been confirmed that Marvel superhero El Muerto is getting its own film starring Bad Bunny. However, the news somehow caused Spider-Man 2099 to trend all over social media instead!

Sony Pictures recently took part at CinemaCon where the studio shared amazing updates on upcoming Spider-Man projects. For instance, it was announced that the third Spider-Verse movie will be titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Another update confirmed that an El Muerto film is in the works with rapper Bad Bunny cast as Diego de la Muerte.

The El Muerto movie certainly sounds like an awesome idea considering that it means we'll be meeting a Mexican-American superhero. However, some fans also pointed out that the Spider-Verse already has another Mexican hero in Spider-Man 2099 and that he deserves his own spin-off as well.

For now, it is unclear if Spider-Man 2099 will be getting his own spin-off project. However, fans can expect to see more of Miguel O'Hara in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

In the comics, Diego de la Muerte is abducted and sacrificed to the Aztec gods of death but he later returns to Earth with superpowers and becomes El Muerto aka The Dead One. The character is also known as The Aztec Zombie and was previously played by Wilmer Valderrama in the 2007 live-action film.

Details about the El Muerto movie have not been revealed and the project has not yet been given an official release date. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been pushed back and will premiere on June 2, 2023. The third film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled for release in March 2024.
