Is Spider-Man 2099 the Villain in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part 1?

The first teaser for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) certainly has fans hyped up for the return of Miles Morales. However, the footage also has people concerned about the other character in the video. In the teaser, it looked like Miles was being attacked by Spider-Man 2099. But does this mean that Miguel O'Hara will be the villain in the highly anticipated animated sequel?

The Across the Spider-Verse teaser opened with a cute scene where Gwen Stacy visits Miles in his universe and invites him to go out. Miles says he's grounded but Gwen obviously won't take no for an answer. Next thing we see is Miles swinging across different dimensions and falling into a new world where he is suddenly grabbed by Spider-Man 2099.

The hero is clearly on the offensive and Miles is trying really hard to get away from him. But what is with all the aggression? Has Spider-Man 2099 gone bad?

Comic book fans will be quick to point out that Miguel is not necessarily trying to kill Miles but is merely defending his territory. In the comics, Miguel has a history of dealing with Spider-People who have been aggressive so it makes sense that an unfamiliar dude dressed as Spider-Man would be seen as a possible baddie. However, there is a good chance that Miles will be able to explain that he ended up in Miguel's universe by accident.

For now, it is unclear just how big Spider-Man 2099's role will be in Across the Spider-Verse. However, there is a huge chance that he will be one of the main characters since he's being played by Oscar Isaac yet again. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
