It has been a long time since we got any updates on Sonic the Hedgehog 2. However, it looks like we have some good news about the highly anticipated sequel. The upcoming film has finally found the perfect actor to play Tails and the casting is just perfect!
We already knew that Tails would show up in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The fox's future appearance was teased in the first movie's post-credits scene where Tails arrives on Earth in search of Sonic. But who will play Tails in the sequel? Colleen O'Shaughnessey revealed that she will be playing a larger role in Sonic 2!
"Taking my old pal Tails for another adventure. Thrilled to announce I’m the voice of Miles “Tails” Prower in #SonicMovie2! Can’t wait for y'all to see him on the big screen," O'Shaughnessey tweeted.
This is welcome news for fans of the games who believe O'Shaughnessey is the only person who could possibly provide the voice of Tails. After all, she had provided the voice of the character in the video games since 2014 and reprised the role in the first Sonic movie. At this point, it's hard to imagine anybody else other than O'Shaughnessey playing Tails.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will also introduce Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic's red counterpart. The character, who will be voiced by Idris Elba, is set to play a major role in the upcoming film as he will reportedly be working with Jim Carrey's Dr Ivo Robotnik. However, it isn't because Knuckles is a bad guy. It is suggested that he is tricked by Dr Eggman into working with the villain.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is directed by Jeff Fowler and will also bring back Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular hero. He will be joined by James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, who previously appeared in the first movie. The sequel is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022.
