The first two Rebel Moon movies have been released, with Part 2, The Scargiver, finally hitting Netflix last week. As director Zack Snyder has already confirmed the making of Rebel Moon Part 3, lead star Sofia Boutella is unsure yet of Kora’s return to the epic space opera.

Snyder plans to create up to six Rebel Moon movies, though Netflix has yet to officially greenlight the film’s continuation. Part 1, A Child of Fire, received generally negative reviews, while Part 2 got mixed reactions.

In an interview with The Direct, Boutella gave an update about her possible involvement in the third movie. As the lead star of the first two films, many expect to see the Algerian actress take the lead again.

However, when asked if she had already talked to Snyder about reprising the role, her answer shot down fans’ hope.

“No, not yet,” she said.

Despite that, the 42-year-old remains hopeful for the film series’ future. The second movie revealed that Princess Issa is still alive, so she would find it amazing if the third film featured the young royal’s return.

“That’s what we say at the end of movie number two,” she continued.

Though her comeback has yet to be a sealed deal, she would love to do so, as they all loved being part of this project.

However, it all depends on Netflix’s decision and whether Snyder will return to helm the film.

“I'm not closed off to working and to being creative, especially taking back on board a character like Kora; who knows, maybe,” she added.

So far, Netflix has yet to confirm whether Rebel Moon Part 3 will happen. However, Snyder earlier confirmed the making of the third movie.

It’s also good to note that The Scargiver ended with a major cliffhanger, with Princess Issa living in hiding and Regent Balisarius still alive.

That said, the franchise still has several loose ends to tie up, hinting at a possibility to continue.

Though critics seemingly disapprove of Rebel Moon, with Part 1 getting 21% and Part 2 a 15% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it doesn’t mean the audience hates it.

A Child of Fire had 73.6 million views and topped Netflix’s Global Top 10 movie list for two weeks. Alternatively, The Scargiver also topped the list and got 44.2 million views for its first weekend.

Hence, its performance is not a complete waste. So, if Snyder continues the franchise, there’s a big chance that Netflix may do so.

Rebel Moon Part 1 and Part 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
