Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire received generally negative reviews following its limited theatrical and Netflix release in December 2023. Though it remains to be seen how Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver will pan out, director Zack Snyder reveals his plans to make up to six Rebel Moon movies.
Rebel Moon Part 2 finally hits Netflix today. Though Snyder earlier revealed that it would be the “completion of the story,” it looks like Kora’s journey is far from over.
In an interview with Radio Times, the filmmaker revealed it might make sense if they would do four Rebel Moon movies.
“Four or six movies, depending... I guess it's whether or not every time we make one of these movies, we make two; that's the question,” he said. “We were talking about it the other day, and I was like, would an audience be disappointed if they only got one movie now from Rebel Moon? Would they be like, 'Oh, it's one now? Great.”
Netflix has yet to greenlight Rebel Moon Part 3, but Snyder has already confirmed it will happen. The film is already in the works, and the story is all set.
However, the epic saga's continuation will depend on how it turns out.
“We absolutely have the story all set; we did all that work,” he continued. “We wrote a treatment for the movie, so we'll see how we go ahead.”
Snyder didn’t confirm if the planned four to six Rebel Moon movies will include the upcoming extended cuts that will also be released this year. But if they are counted, there may be two to four additional instalments.
With the first film’s lacklustre reviews, not even reaching critical or audience acclaim, it remains to be seen if Netflix will want to invest in big-budgeted movies like that. Its lengthy story requires extensive production and substantial financial resources.
The first two films, filmed back-to-back, reportedly cost $166 million to make. So, what more about making four to six movies? That said, it may all depend on the success and reactions Rebel Moon Part 2 will receive.
What is Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver about?
Rebel Moon Part Two continues the journey of Kora and her fellow surviving warriors after their big fight against Admira Atticus Noble and the Imperium forces on Gondival.
They believed they had killed the evil military leader, but the Imperium brought him back to life.
Regent Balisarius wants Noble to bring Kora back to him to execute in front of the senators. If not, Noble will be the one to die.
Hence, a war is about to begin. Kora, Gunnar, Nemesis, Tarak, General Titus, Milius, Jimmy and the people of Veldt are ready for action.
They will fight for themselves and the once peaceful village the Motherworld wants to conquer.
