Director Yeon Sang Ho’s Netflix sci-fi film Jung_E immediately dominated the streaming giant’s top movie list soon after its release.
Jung_E, set in the post-apocalyptic 22nd century, explores the life of a researcher working at Kranoid Lab.
Late actress Kang Soo Yeon plays the role of Seo Hyun, the team leader of the lab’s brain cloning team, who works with her assistants to make a copy of Jung_E’s brain. Jung_E, on the other hand, is an elite soldier, to create a combat AI warrior to end a civil war.
After a long wait, Netflix released the flick on its website and app.

Jung_E Tops Netflix’s Global Chart 1 Day After Release
On Friday, the streaming giant added Jung_E to its catalog. Only a day after its release, the Yeon Sang Ho-directed film topped the global chart.
The Korea Herald cited the report posted by OTT content streaming ranking site Patrol. In the data, it can be seen Jung_E ranked No. 1 in Netflix’s film category as of Saturday. The film immediately secured the spot after 31 countries made it the most-watched flick in the past week.

To be exact, Jung_E topped the list in Chile, Thailand, South Korea, Brazil, Vietnam and Spain, among others.
According to its director, he said he chose to make a movie about AI robots so he could make the viewers think about whether “humanity really belongs to humans.”
Jung_E Was Actress Kang Soo Yeon’s Last Project
The release came months after one of its main stars, Kang Soo Yeon, died.
In May, Korea’s first world star passed away in Gangnam Severance Hospital following a heart attack at her home in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul. Yonhap News Agency reported that her family found her unresponsive inside her home, prompting them to call the 119 emergency hotline to seek help.
The responders arrived at 5:48 p.m. and gave her CPR. They successfully regained her consciousness through CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) before transporting her to the hospital.
However, the actress did not make it as she suffered from intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) following the attack.
