The highly-anticipated Spider-Man spinoff series Silk: Spider Society is undergoing a massive creative overhaul just weeks after the writers resumed their work for the project following last year's strike.

The series is slated to be the first television project in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) franchise that will air on MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who worked on the Spider-Verse animated films, are producing the project.

It will center on Korean-American heroine Cindy Moon, who also gets bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers.

The Ankler revealed that Silk: Spider Society recently paused its writers' room and released all the writers to pursue new work on other projects.

The project is still in active development despite the overhauling of its writers' room. Angela Kang, who serves as the showrunner of the series, will remain in her duty.

There is no reason stated regarding why the writers (minus Kang) were let go from the project and undergoing a massive creative overhaul as the development resumes following the writers' strike last year.

A source cited in the article claimed that the series is "being refocused with a more male-skewing audience in mind" similar to the other Amazon Prime Video shows which have found success.

It is also speculated that Madame Web's tanking at the box office and negative critical reception may have also led to the decision to change to potentially appeal to the male audience.

The show's development was already in hot water before the creative overhaul since the writers' room did not immediately resume after the strike ended last September.

It prompted the Writers' Guild of America (WGA) to issue a letter to Amazon and remind the company that "their failure to recommence a number of writing rooms after the strike is a violation of the Strike Termination Agreement (STA) between the WGA and AMPTP."

It will likely take a while before we hear another major update on the project. Hopefully, its development will go smoothly with a new creative direction since fans have been anticipating the live-action debut of the beloved heroine.
