News of Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia possibly ending this year sparked fears among Shonen Jump readers, with many fearing that the magazine might be in trouble if these two big titles end in 2023.

While both series have not announced specific ending dates yet, statements from the authors of both titles suggest that the end is in sight for them. This means two huge gaps will need to be filled in Shonen Jump’s slate.

Right now, My Hero Academia is on its final arc as the heroes and villains are locked in a climactic battle that will decide the world’s fate.

While fans can’t predict when exactly the series will end, author Kohei Horikoshi has indicated before that he is planning on ending the series soon. In fact, he initially thought of ending it in 2022.

Though a few months ago, Horikoshi mentioned that he reconsidered the manga’s ending date. It will now extend into 2023, but no one knows for how long.

As for Jujutsu Kaisen, new reports came out recently that author Gege Akutami aims to end the series within the year.

This is based on leaked copies of the next Shonen Jump issue, which features Akutami’s author comment on the matter.

Unlike My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t on its final arc yet. Because of this, some fans are worried that if the series does indeed end this year, it might be rushed and unsatisfying.

Many fans consider Shonen Jump’s big three to be One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Jujutsu Kaisen.

If both series will end this year, it will be a big blow to Shonen Jump as there’s no clear title that can replace them at the top.

Because of this, many fans think that Shonen Jump might be in trouble as only One Piece might remain as their main shonen hit.

It doesn’t help that, according to some fans, other Shonen Jump titles are also in their final arcs.

Of course, it’s not all doom and gloom for Shonen Jump. Currently, titles such as Mashle and Undead Unluck have upcoming anime adaptations which can help boost their popularity.

Meanwhile, Shueisha still has Jump+ which has a selection of major titles, including the likes of Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man, and Kaiju No. 8.
