Secret Invasion: Samuel L. Jackson Confirms Don Cheadle's MCU Return

One of the most-anticipated upcoming MCU shows is Secret Invasion which will star Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn's Talos as they navigate the Skrulls who have infiltrated all aspects of life on Earth. A few weeks ago, some set photos from the series emerged which suggested that Don Cheadle's James Rhodes will be making an appearance. Now, it looks like that is actually the case as confirmed by its star.

During an interview with Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jackson confirmed that Cheadle is indeed making his MCU return in Secret Invasion reprising his role as James Rhodes. "C'mon man, you walk on the set, Emilia [Clarke]'s amazing, Ben Mendelsohn, he's awesome. Don, Don Cheadle" he said. "I got Don, that's my golf buddy. I didn't realize it, but 'til we did this thing, I was like, 'We've never worked together.' We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh, but we'd never worked together and we finally got to work together."

While it was already expected that Cheadle will be appearing in the series due to the set photos, it is great to hear a confirmation from Jackson himself and it just further shows that the series will involve some sort of government conspiracy. James Rhodes fits the narrative as he has served the government for a long time and, as suggested by the set photos, it looks like he is serving as the adviser for the US president. It would be interesting to see how he'll play out overall in the story.

Secret Invasion will be Cheadle's second MCU appearance post-Avengers: Endgame as he showed up last year during the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for a few minutes to give some advice to Sam Wilson. He is also expected to star in his own series titled Armor Wars, which will reportedly start filming later this year.

There's a lot of excitement right now to Secret Invasion as it will mark another appearance of Jackson, Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, and Martin Freeman in the MCU reprising their respective roles. They are joined by franchise newcomers Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Carmen Ejogo, Killian Scott, and Christopher McDonald.

There is no release date set yet for Secret Invasion, but it is expected to premiere later this year on Disney+.
