Marvel's Armor Wars Reportedly Receives Filming Date

Marvel Studios confirmed multiple TV shows like Secret Invasion, Loki Season 2, and the upcoming Moon Knight, seems like another addition to the MCU shows is Iron Man’s spin-off, Armor Wars.

According to a tweet from Lizzie Hill of My Comic Circus, the filming will start in October and is set to finish in November 2022. We can assume that Armor Wars will have a 2023 release date.

Armor Wars will focus on Don Cheadle’s ‘War Machine’ and follow in the footsteps of the Marvel pioneer, Tony Stark prior to the events of Avengers: Endgame. While the cast of the show is not yet confirmed, many rumors are circulating online that Anthony Mackie’s ‘Falcon’ will make an appearance.

Armor Wars is set to be after Secret Invasion’s event and will be the IronHeart, a series also confirmed by Disney+ that will focus on Iron Man’s successor, Riri Williams. War Machine is also rumored to be Riri’s mentor since Tony Stark has been long gone and the only piece of him left is his company, Stark Industries.

Armor Wars also disconnects its synopsis to the Marvel Comics that it’s originally based on because the storyline in the Comics features Iron Man as the lead role. And since he is no longer part of the MCU, War Machine will be the lead role.

In a previous interview for Comic-Con, Cheadle discussed War Machine’s future in the MCU. "I think the most exciting part is yet to come. I think we don't have a super-strong idea of who he is, really. Outside of that bubble of The Avengers. Outside of his friendship with Tony," he added "Now, he's going to be untethered from all of that. So, it's an opportunity to discover who he is, that we have not had before with concentrated time and focus on Rhodey, and Rhodey's journey. Hopefully, some stuff about his past. Teeing up some things about his potential future. Who knows how long this Marvel thing goes. It seems kinda unending."

"The most exciting things are still to come and those things were hinted at in Endgame," he continued. "Where this character might go? What might be in the offing for him? It's very early in the process for Armor Wars. We just hired my boy Yassir [Lester], which I am very excited about. He wrote on Black Monday. Became friends with him, really close with him. Great guy, a lot of great ideas. Honestly, we're still trying to crack the spine of what it's going to be and chop it up. I couldn't give you the answers if you wanted them, because we're in the 'clay mode' right now."

Cheadle also gave AP Entertainment an update about the Armor Wars, "It's going to be interesting. We are just talking about what that show is going to be, we probably will start filming sometime next year and are just cracking the story right now. Deciding what that journey [is] going to look like, what the iteration of this is going to be. Obviously, if people know Armor Wars [from the comics] they know what the series is about. But it's also figuring out how to establish and dig really deep into who Rhodey is because we haven't really seen a lot of that in the movies."

While Marvel is pushing through their first projects like Moon Knight and Secret Invasions first, we will surely see War Machine’s comeback into the MCU as early as next year.
