Lucasfilm and Disney's search for the actor to portray the young Han Solo in the Star Wars spinoff movie is almost over. The studios are currently on the final stages of the search, with a shortlist having just emerged, multiple sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
The site's sources claim that London tests involved three actors only. The actors include Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Taron Egerton (The Kingsman and Eddie the Eagle).
It's possible that the shortlist could include several other names, but with Star Wars keeping a tight lid on all its projects, it's difficult to know for sure. It also remains unclear whether the London tests were costume tests or screen tests.
The aforementioned actors were reportedly chosen from a group consisting around 10 actors who met with directors. Other names on the grapevine are Miles Teller (Whiplash and Divergent movies) and Ansel Elgort (Fault in Our Stars and Divergent movies).
Sources also claimed that other names who tested include Emory Cohen (Brooklyn) and actors from Everybody Wants Some. More than 2,500 actors reportedly auditioned for the role.
Disney started searching for the actor to play a younger version of the Star Wars character famously portrayed by Harrison Ford in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens. Ford's Solo is one of the highlights in the epic space opera series, so much so that Mark Hamill thought Luke Skywalker was the character's sidekick during the first Star Wars auditions. Ford's appearance in The Force Awakensis among the main reasons for the film's critical and commercial success.
Disney has not replied to THR's request for comment.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's Han Solo spinoff movie is scheduled for a 2018 release.
