Ryan Reynolds Shares Disappointing Update on Free Guy Sequel

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Free Guy was a huge success at the box office, which is more impressive considering that it's an original film and not based on an IP. As a result, reports came later on that a sequel is now in development and the audience is waiting for more updates regarding it.

However, as reported by Variety, it looks like a sequel to Free Guy may not happen at all as star and producer Ryan Reynolds casts doubt on the project when he was asked for updates during his appearance at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in London.

"There is the potential to do a sequel to Free Guy, which would be fun. I would love it. But also like, does everything fucking have to be a sequel? I don’t know. Sometimes it’s OK to just do a movie and have it kick ass and then everyone go home," he said.

"So you know, there’s a bit of a push and pull there, resisting the urge to just immediately say, ‘Ohh, doing a sequel will validate the first one,’ No, the first movie validates the first one and then you can leave it at that. So I don’t know, we’re still talking about it."

While Reynolds did not shoot down the possibility of the sequel officially happening in the future, it sounds like there is some uncertainty and the actor himself is also taking pre-caution on developing the sequel since he wants to deliver the same quality as the first film.

There is also the fact that the actor is busy right now with multiple projects including the highly-anticipated Deadpool 3, where he is reprising the titular role and will finally work together with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

For now, let's just wait and see whether the film will eventually happen in the future and, based on the audience reception, there is no doubt that a lot of people will check it out. After all, who doesn't want to see Reynolds play the role again on the big screen?
