Requiem of the Rose King: What Is It About?

Based on a manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Aya Kanno, Requiem of the Rose King loosely adapts William Shakespeare's Henry IV and Richard III. The series follows an intersex version of Richard, who identifies as a man but struggles to be perceived as one. Adored by his father but hated by his mother, and haunted by spirits who taunt him, Richard is a deeply conflicted character who brings much-needed lgbtq+ representation in the world of anime and manga,

The anime is not as well-paced as the manga, making it confusing for non-readers or those not familiar with the historical events discussed, though, with 24 episodes, the pacing will hopefully improve later on. W

Requiem of the Rose King English Dub Release Date

Funimation recently announced the English dub of Requiem of the Rose King. Since Sunday, the 30th of January, the first episode of the anime is available to stream dubbed on their website. From there on, an additional episode will be available per week in English dub.

Given the subject matter of the show, the English dub will be a valuable addition that will add nuance, if done well! We hope to see a Shakespearean pun or two there!

Requiem of the Rose King English Dub Cast

The English dub of Requiem of the Rose King will feature Ciarán Strange as Richard. The voice actor is also known for his roles as Ayame Sohma in Fruits Basket and Louis in The Case Study of Vanitas. Henry will be voiced by Landon McDonald (Mikihiko Yoshida from The Honor Student of Magical School).

The short-lived Duke of York, Richard's beloved father, will be voiced by J. Michael Tatum, an experienced voice actor who portrayed Scar in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, amongst many other roles.

Other English dub cast members include E. Jason Liebrecht as Edward, Aaron Campbell as George, Brent Mukai as Warwick, Ian Sinclair as Catesby, Emi Lo as Anne, Morgan Laure as Cecily, and Kayleigh McKee as Joan of Arc.
